According to social science, there are five categorized “unanticipated consequences”. I don’t wanna get into the whole Butterfly Effect issue lol (do you have all day? heehee). The consequence of a certain action and/or reaction may be good or bad. But good or bad for whom? For one or many? and who decides if bad or good? Anyway, toooooooo many questions (and the letter “o”on my keyboard gets stuck! apologies, that was just random ). I was just thinking all this stuff (what?! i like to think of different scenarios!)

Ahem… back to my subject. Stop distracting me!

One category is the self-defeating prophecy. What’s that about? Basically it’s when you hear or think (or just guess) that something bad is gonna happen, you might take certain measures to prevent that bad from happening, correct? Correct. Well, what if something different happened as a result of you taking those measures? That’s self-defeating prophecy. Not to be confused with self-fulfilling prophecy, ugh don’t get me started on that..

I can give you an example of a self-defeating prophecy that i witnessed recently at work. Two brothers. One of them, brother A, has many health issues, one of which is a bad kidney. Brother B takes measures to prevent him from getting same health issues. He has a fear of becoming like Brother A.

Now this is where it gets tricky: A health issue arises for Brother B. A kidney problem. How, why? Well, he took measures (a very strict diet, of little or no carbohydrates to prevent diabetes) and as a result his kidney cannot produce enough of the much needed natural insulin. So, he anticipated diabetes prevention, took measures (his own, not his doctor’s), but defeated himself, with the outcome of those measures.

Am i making sense? Probably not
